Quorum · A social game exploring your self-perception and public image

Cover image

What do you think about your friends? And yourself? What do your friends think about you? What do you think your friends think about you?

These questions make the essence of what makes Quorum intriguing. It is a game best played face-to-face with a group of four or more players who are familiar with each other. The core of the game is to match a question/statement to a friend and then estimate how many players think the statement applies to you.

Give it a try by playing the demo at playquorum.com

Here is an example for a question: Who would fend well for themselves on an abandoned island?

Once presented with a question, every player anonymously picks a friend who they think would be a good fit.

Afterwards, the players have to estimate how many votes they received for the current question.

Finally, the results are displayed, contrasting the players' estimation of themselves and the real votes they received. This is the best part, which can make for comical results depending on the expectations and (mis-)conceptions the players have of each other and themselves.

Note that players don't score because they received votes, but because they gave a correct estimate of how many votes they will receive.

Features

While the game is in active development, it is perfectly playable. Here is a non exhaustive list of some more and some less obvious features which are already present in the game:

  • Localization - the game and interface support localization.
  • Played questions cache - the questions you have already played are persisted, either on your device or, if present, in your account. This allows the game to always provide you with new questions, provided you haven't already played the entire library of questions.
  • Rate questions - you can rate any question you have played. This is valuable feedback for the creator of the question.
  • Categorization - every question is categorized to allow players to choose which questions they are comfortable with playing.
  • Create questions - on top of the many provided questions anyone with an account can create their own questions.
  • Demo - the nature of the game requires you to be in the same room with four or more of your friends to have the best experience. This is not ideal to get a first impression. Thus, visitors can choose to play a simulated session of the game.
